Sometimes when I work out songs for us to play – I have an idea that they how they will sound on the ukulele. I do a little recording to check it works then bring the song to the group. But I wasn’t prepared for how AWESOME the new song would sound all together! It was so cool. I think I even jumped up and down a little bit! I can’t wait to spend more time on this over the next couple of weeks.
Another fantastic evening at The New Highwood last night. So great to welcome new faces too! I was really pleased that so many people had a go at playing TAB and that your confidence is growing in that area. I get TAB parts wrong 9.5 times out of 10 at first… even though I wrote them out!! The only way to move on is to practise! You know I’m right :-)!
Have a listen to the demo and listen for the tab parts – if you’re feeling confident on your chord playing maybe you could have a go at the tab! I am always happy to go through tab with anyone who is struggling to understand it…
Until next week my friends and don’t forget to keep spreading the word about our gig!
It was really good fun at last night’s session – great to play some rock n roll along with more laid back songs. All these different styles and techniques will bring your playing on so keep practising! it was brilliant to see everyone have a go at some tab.
if you get frustrated with something in particular then start slow and work your way up. for example, if the change from D7 to Bb is getting you down then start by strumming 4 down beats on each chord slowly until your fingers get to be in the right place at the right time. Keep your strumming hand consistent like a metronome even if you miss the first beat of the chord – this is how you develop your muscle memory so KEEP AT IT!
It was lovely to welcome a roomful of strummers at last night’s RUG session – despite the rainy conditions. And we did some excellent work – progressing on the songs we have been working on as well as looking at a new one.
Remember to write 20th November and 18th December in your diaries!
20th November will be a charity fundraiser gig at the Thomas Osbourne pub on Street Lane. We will have a play and a pint and raise some money for a charity. I have had a few suggestions for charities so will confirm nearer the time.
18th December is our Christmas gig and party at The Highwood. We have the use of the upstairs room so we can invite friends and family to help us have a party ukulele style!
That’s all for now folks… enjoy your week and see you very soon
