About

Roundhay Ukulele Group came into existence in early 2013, when a small bunch of friends began playing the Ukulele together in a kitchen.

At the core of the R.U.G. is the belief that music should be accessible, inclusive and fun. Come along to one of our sessions to find out for yourself how awesome your favourite songs are on the ukulele!

We regularly perform at charity and community events, although there is no obligation to play in public! Please check out our GIGS page for details of our up and coming gigs.

We meet every Wednesday from 8pm-9.30pm at

LIDGETT PARK METHODIST CHURCH HALL (fire door entrance off main car park)

Lidgett Place

Leeds LS8 1HS

LIDGETT PARK

The cost is £6 for the session. Sheet music is provided. Tea and coffee available for a small cost before the session (from 7:30pm)

The sessions are suitable for learners – complete beginners may benefit from a private lesson first: please contact jen@bighooha.co.uk for more information or visit the INFORMATION FOR BEGINNERS page. Ukuleles are available to borrow on the night with prior arrangement.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Hi Jen – I would love to join but it may be too late in the day for now??? Could join in New Year if that’s better? Have learnt Uke with another group so not an “absolute beginner” but need to practice!!!! Look forward to hearing from you – Lynn

Hi Lynn – thank you for your message. You’d be welcome to join us any Monday eve! In the first session (7pm-8pm) we do around 5 sing-along songs and from 8pm we’re concentrating on songs for our Christmas performances (more in-depth arrangements). Come along and see what you think… You can play what you can and see what a session is like. It’s a very friendly group! I am also running beginners and improves courses in January. I can send you details of you’d like? My email is jen@bighooha.co.uk for more reliable contact! I look forward to hearing from you 🙂

    Hi Jen
I’m interested in learning the ukelele and need a beginner’s class before joining a group. Have taught myself a few chords but that’s all. Do you run a suitable class or one to one tuition?

Hi. I’m learning the basics cords on the ukulele and wondered if there was room to join your Wednesday group. I do have a very cheap ukulele and if you have one I’d like to borrow one of yours to see if any difference.
Have a lovely Christmas and happy new year.

Hi Denise thank you for your message! Do you mean the Wednesday group in Roundhay or the morning group in Otley? Either way – there is room for you! People come when they can do you don’t have to commit to weekly sessions. Some songs you’ll find you can do and others might be a challenge but it’s all about having fun and improving skills. Groups start again 11th January. I can bring you a ukulele but you’ll have to remind me nearer the time! Please can you email me jen@bighooha.co.uk to remind me the day before?! I’ll forget otherwise! Please keep in touch and let me know if you have any further queries. Kind regards, Jen

I have two tickets for The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, on the 19th of May in Leeds Town Hall at 7:30 PM. Due to unforeseen circumstances I will not be able to use them, so I will send them, by post, free of charge, to the first person that asks for them and sends me their name and postal address.
